Sunshine Chameleons

Sunny Central Florida

Translucent Veiled Chameleon

Currently we are sold out, but do have another clutch that just hatched 4/22/09!!!

We've taken great pride in the selection of our breeders to produce some of the greatest transulucents to ever hit the market. Our male is one of the orangest veileds I've ever seen. Even his resting colors are unreal. Both of our breeders are very large and health Veileds, so the offspring are sure to carry on these traits. They should be ready for new homes soon. We have very limited amounts of high ends, so please inquire about reserving one.

Babies!!!!!

Male Translucent Breeder

Chester- Chester is our fantasic, super orange, low end translucent, and he is sure to produce some wonderful offspring.

Female Translucent Breeder

Girl- Girl is our female, low end translucent veiled breeder. She is a monster at 115g and still growing. She produced two  100% fertile clutches with Chester.

About Translucent Chameleons

Translucent Veild chameleons, some times called transbald or morph Veiled, were originally a trio of  wild caught from Yemen.  One male and two females. They were shipped to Europe where the unique bloodline was bred out. They were first seen in the United States at the 2006 Daytona Reptile Show. Being that they are relatively new to the United States a lot of negative reputaion has been associated with them. Some of the speculation can include,  it being a genetic defect or the lack of pigment in the skin could have a problematic effect with the absorbtion of UV light. Yes, this translucent gene is a defect, but so is albinoism. This is where the term "morph" was coined. Their has also been zero negative effect to the absorbtion of UVB light, some clutches of super high ends were raised under Reptisun 10.0 bulbs. They have been available in Europe for over 7 years with no recorded haealth problems. Some of the original bloodlines that were bred in the United States were bred with normal wild caught specimens to make sure no inbreeding would be present. When this morph of Veiled first reached the States they were selling for 3,000 dollars. Since then price has dropped dramatically, now priced from 300-1000 dollars depending on apperance. By apperance I mean the amount of the tanslucent gene that is present. "In homozygous carriers both alleles at the gene locus coding for this trait are translucent alleles. This animal will be a "high end" and be fully translucent. Fully translucent males will have a wide range of colors including white heads, see through body parts like arms, feet and eyes, a blue body and orange stripes. In a heterozygous carrier one allele at the gene locus coding for this trait is the translucent gene while the other is a normal gene. This animal will be a "low end" and not fully translucent."-Chris Anderson. The gene is actually co-dominant, so it can be passed on by any animal that is a carrier. Low ends will likely have white feet and a very blue body.

A lot of this information was gathered from http://www.chameleonforums.com/ and from Chris Anderson. Thank you

How the gene is passed on

If you breed a low translucent veiled to a normal veiled, you will get about 50% low translucents and 50% normal offspring.

If you breed a low translucent veiled to a low translucent veiled, you will get about 50% low translucents, 25% normals and 25% high translucent offspring.

If you breed a high translucent veiled to a normal veiled, you will get 100% low translucent offspring.

If you breed a high translucent veiled to a low trans, you will get about 50% low translucent and 50% high translucent offspring.

If you a breed a high translucent to a high translucent, you will get 100% high translucent offspring.

The information above is from Chris Anderson. Thank you.
